Last Friday it was finally time for the Trendwatcher of the Year Awards 2015 2016 during the Accenture Innovation Awards. We partied like it was the future. We are so grateful for everyone that joined us for the celebration and helped turn the event into a succes.
Sanne Carrière (So Now) opened the event with her story TWOTY 2048. "It was now 9pm in Enclave xi5.u6, and past time she got to her Gathering. Her shell-skin was in stealth mode and on full armor, for this Enclave was not known for its love for the freethinker. Trying to blend in, Base felt herself the exact opposite: a complete stranger to these streets and the rats that inhabited them. Yet perhaps all felt this alienated."
Staying in the future, it was time to hand out our price for Futurist of the Year. Pieter Paul van Oerle (Accenture) joined us on stage to hand out the award. And the winner is... Rachel Armstrong! Rachel joined us on Skype from her lab in Newcastle because she was teaching her students how to save the world. Ok potentially saving the world, researching architectural materials that like being wet, in an attempt to establish what kind of homes and seasides experiences we will have as the sea levels rise. Arne Hendriks, artist and speculative designer, joined us on stage to pick up Rachel's prices.
On to the next award! Jeffrey Prins from Stichting Doen joined us on stage for the Forecaster of the Year award. And the winner is.... Truus Dokter! Her Start Up report included four directions for the future: The Unseen, The Source, Multi-Path, and Off-The-Grid. You can read a short impression of the work on A Full Insight by It Fits!
Time for the Upcoming Talent of The Year. We were joined by last edition's winner Tom Palmaerts who recorded a video message for us because he was in Paris investigating the future of chocolate. After telling us about the mountains of chocolate that were surrounding him, he expressed his admiration for all the people that have submitted in this category for their courage to send in their work, pressing that everyone who has submitted in this category deserves some attention. And the winner is... Delany Boutkan! Delany also joined us by Skype from London where she works. She shared with us that "in order to influence our future we have to start in the present." We wouldn't have said it any better!
This day we celebrate the future, a future that is important for businesses to take into consideration as well. To explain why and how businesses need to be "future proof" Diewertje Damen from Rainbow Collection took the stage. Joined by Valene Lontanga (Vlisco) and Pieter Wamsteker (Salux Healthcare) we got an image of what businesses can do to future proof themselves through the cases of Vlisco and Salux Healthcare.
And then it was time for the Trendwatcher of the Year Award. Diewertje was joined on stage by Andrea and Joost Augusteijn (Rabobank) to hand out the award. Joost sharediwth us some insights about the submissions. And the Trendwatcher of the Year is.... Guido van de Wiel!
"Everyone is a winner baby" We raised a glass of pink champaign to the winners and continued to enjoy the tunes by DJ Klaus while the attendees mingled.
